Feeding Frenzy

All I ask for is a 1-hour nap! Crystal was on a constant feeding binge last night from 8:30 pm to 2 am. She just finished another one from 12:30 to 4:30 pm (at least I think she's finished).

Is Crystal being a special case of demanding? I've been topless for most of the night and day. She also poops about 8 diapers a day: about 3-times the minimum required amount.

Now it's my turn to get something to eat. At least I got two 2-hour naps this morning. At what age do newborns slow down? At this point, it seems that she is only speeding up.

All of this pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing has made me feel very womanly.

It sounds like she is using you for a pacifier. She can wait a little while between feedings. At her weight she should be able to wait for 3 hours between feedings. Good luck.

I nursed Kim every two hours, round the clock for 9 months, but I agree with Cindy. Both of you are trying to adjust to one another. There certainly isn't anything wrong with using a pacifier. She'll eventually figure this out, and so will you. Just take advantage of any naptime you can get.

You are cute. So is she.
There's a book out there "On Becoming Baby Wise" that helps you teach your cute little wee baby how to have a healthy schedule, one where she sleeps regularly and eats regularly and plays regularly and you get some control in your life.
And you get to wear clothes more.

If she is actually eating you will hear her kind of gulping or swallowing regularly...if you can't hear that, she's probably ok to be taken off.

Hold off on the pacifier for at least a month... Nipple confusion won't be fun to deal with, although I don't have experience with that since I waited a good 6 weeks before giving a dummy to either of my kids. Babies this new and tiny don't really have the concept of time down yet either... Plus, she'll gain good healthy weight with constant feeding. Less worries about milk inadequacy with constant feeding :)

Also-- have you tried side-lying position to nurse? Then you can get some rest.

I'm afraid to nurse laying down because I don't want to fall asleep and wake up to find bruises from Crystal trying to re-latch herself. Yes, and I'm still not planning on using the pacifier yet.

Maya nursed like a champ laying down so I would just put her next to me and fall back asleep. She was probably a few weeks old before I started doing that though. If you think about how much they grow in the first year it isn't surprising that they are hungry and tired a lot. Plus she is used to being inside your body, so she probably wants to be right next to you a lot.
