Childbirth Preparation

As I'm technically in my second trimester, I've been thinking a lot about what I need to decide and do before the third trimester and before the baby's birth. I've been leaning toward a more natural birth since I have somewhat of a general distrust in medication. Though I am terrified of even giving birth.

Here is my plan so far:

1. Prenatal visit every 4 weeks; ask about H1N1 vaccine?
2. Already scheduled the ultrasound for October
3. Pre-Register with Holy Cross Hospital in November
4. Register for a Lamaze class for February in November
5. Attend KP's Prenatal II class in January
6. Register for the hospital's prenatal tour in January
7. Possibly hire a doula?

Good plan. If you ever need female input without the doula, I know that any one of your sis-in-laws, or mom in-law would gladly help... but a doula would be good too. I am excited to find out if the baby will be a nephew or a niece.

Ditto Alison: doulas are expensive...between all of us I think we could do a good job of talking you through this. I can totally help out if you need a natural birth coach, although if your scared you probably will change your mind and get drugs in the end, but I can help with that too if you want.

ditto Cindy and Alison! I think between us we could at least talk you through a good pros and cons list. Good grief you are organized! Good job!

Yes, anxiety tends to make me organize and write plans down. Otherwise I keep myself up late at night worrying and trying to remember stuff.

By the way, "this is the life" is Sarah, not Cindy. :) It looks like I can count on all you sister-in-laws! Anyone else want to offer little Wendy advice and services?

Had a doula with Lizzy. I loved her. Loved loved loved the doula. She was fabulous. She was actually a Doula-to-be and we were her second real birth on the road to registration. She was really great, fetched and massaged and allowed my husband to go get dinner and talked me through stuff. She was great. Everybody else in the room could focus on the new baby, and her job was to focus on me, which she did marvelously.

I agree with everyone and will GLADLY pitch in and do whatever you would like me to do. I helped Tammy out some and let Dale do the massaging, as a recall. But I was the one to make sure she got what she needed (most of the time). You are so organized compared to me when Dale was on the way. We never did go to classes and barely had anything for him to wear before he came. But, I guess he turned out okay anyway.

I'm afraid of getting dramatized so that I'll never want to give birth again. So, as it is my first kid, I want to do things right.

You'll do fine! The scary part is all in the anticipation. Once it is all happening it is so interesting and exciting, that those emotions seem to overcome the fear...of course I had epidurals, so that was part of it, but it was more exciting than anything else for me.
